Drupal/Unix Consultant - ongoing, on call

SoundVision Productions, a small non-profit organization based in Berkeley, CA, seeks a Drupal/Unix Consultant for 4-8 hours per month and on-call assistance.

Required:

• Proven expertise in Unix and Drupal administration and programming.
• Ability to respond quickly in the case of an urgent problem.

Preferred:

• Local to Berkeley/Oakland/San Francisco, California.
• Experience managing Unix servers as sysadmin or ISP.

Time commitment:

• 4-8 hours per month; sometimes up to 24.
• On call for emergencies. Proactively coordinate with SoundVision staff to ensure constant coverage.

Duties:

The Drupal/Unix Consultant will work with SoundVision's IT team to ensure the smooth operation, backup and security of the organization's web/email/ftp server, and in particular an existing Drupal-based intranet website which relies heavily on Unix shell scripts and FTP. This is a dedicated server without root access; the host is very responsive and can assist with root operations if necessary. The Drupal/Unix Consultant will respond to requests by the IT team to:

• Help configure the server; assist in creating and implementing scripts for transferring files, fixing permissions, monitoring status etc.
• Occasionally add functionality to the existing Drupal application (sometimes modifying/creating custom modules), and fix bugs.
• Handle crashes and major bugs.
• Monitor automatic processes (including backups) and notify staff of any problems.
• Keep an eye on new Drupal community developments and inform the IT team when relevant.
