for some reason path auto doesn't remove apostrophes. it's annoying because they are placed with %2526%2523039%3B as displayed in the URL. I have tried activating the remove punctuation option in the settings without luck. Any help appreciated.

It's not removing other marks of punctuation, either, except for quotation marks. This didn't happen in the previous version of the module. A node title like Step 1: Do This becomes step-1%3A-do-this; it should be step-1-do-this. I read elsewhere a suggestion that all punctuation marks be added to the option about quotation marks. I don't see much use in this if punctuation marks will always be turned into unintelligible code. To me, the beauty of pathauto is that it generates consistent, human-readable URLs. %3A doesn't seem user-friendly to me.
