I have several Drupal websites running on my server, sometime unfortunately working too slow. After reading different relevant threads on Drupal.org, I have come to decision to start to use Lighttpd with FastCGI mode and APC. I am not good in Unix and not wanting to mess up currently working websites I would like to see if I can hire an experienced one who could convert my server smoothly.

My server details:

Kernel 2.6.9-22.ELsmp
Machine Type i686
Apache Verision 1.3.37 (Unix)
Perl Version 5.8.7 (Not sure if I need this at all)
PHP version 4.4.7
MySQL 4.1.22-standard

What would be the best price for doing this kind of job?

1.) What distro? Are there any SELinux or other security concerns?
2.) How many is "several" sites?
3.) What is the server's hardware configuration? Ballpark is ok (i.e., Dell PowerEdge 610, purchased within last 9 months, Intel Xeon, etc.)
4.) Are you using any sort of caching or PHP acceleration?

1. I am sorry I did not get what is 'SELinux or other security concerns'.
2. I have 61 sites on my server in total, but not all of them are Drupal sites and mostly they have little traffic.
3. I hope this is what you asked for:

4. I tried to install eaccelerator but it did not work. Because I could not figure out either right configuration or activate php_mod. I even do not know where to look if my server has php_mod.

you have a recent four-way smp box with generic cache, memory, and disk for nodes of this type, and you've one (or more) instances of apache 1.3x serving up 60-some vhosts, and for reasons i suspect are doubtful, you want to solve some presenting problem, nominally "something slow" by replacing (nearly) everything.

diagnostically you could be lucky.

fwiw, i've run the koufax awards (periodic slashdot effect) along with half a dozen political campaigns, on half that hardware, albeit i've an oc-3 pipe so network bandwidth is never a constraint) and it has never occurred to me to switch from apache 2.x to anything else.

Thanks Joe for replying. The task is simple - I need to install Lighttpd with FastCGI mode and APC. It would be nice if you could also tell how many hours this work would take you.
