User picture vs Avatar

Hello again,

I can find the option in the default user profiles to allow the user to upload an avatar image of themselves, which is great. However, I'm creating a site for a society and while a lot of the members have their own avatars, it would also be nice to have an image of themselves uploaded as well, so new members can recognise the faces.

I can't see a way of adding an extra picture field to the profile.

I beleive you could do this be creating user nodes as CCK types, but this may lead to other issues and I don't really want to go that far.

The other step is to include everyone's mugshot in a gallery, but I want something more obviously linked to the user & their profile than that.

Can anyone suggest if this is possible and how it may be achieved?
