Good times at FrOSCon 2007

Update: Session videos are available!

This last weekend we held a Drupal track as part of FrOSCon 2007. It was a great success.

The two day event celebrated its second year by getting bigger, better, more interesting, and by having a lot more Drupal. We had a lecture room that saw 20-50 people in attendance for the 12 lectures. Upstairs we had a developers' room which was a bit out of the way and badly advertised (something that we can do better next year), so fewer people were there to participate in Drupal hacking.

Lots of great presentations were given by familiar names such as Gábor Hojtsy, Gerhard Killesreiter, Károly Négyesi, Konstantin Käfer and myself. Others made their Drupalcon debut: Olav Schettler, Marco Rademacher, Balázs Dianiska, and Jutta Horstmann.

For fans of open source software, this was a great conference to attend. Many Linux/BSD projects had booths, as well as numerous Linux/Unix user groups, software foundations, programming languages and CMS projects.

The facilities provided by the Fachhochschule Rhein-Sieg were very nice; Internet connectivity was always good and the whole conference was very well run. The FrOSCon team, including David Roetzel, Lars Ehrhardt, Volker Lingens, Waldemar Brodkorb, Andreas Kupfer, Maria Stohn, Ralf Boeckhorst, and many others, was stunning. Everything just worked. They had legions of friendly helpers always available to assist, and no need was left unmet. Thank you FrOSCon team!

The Drupal Association also played a big role in this conference first by sponsoring the conference, and by sponsoring the speakers as well. Thanks also to Development Seed and Lullabot for providing additional sponsorship.

There are plenty of pictures to be seen, and if you take the time to look you'll see that the conference is first-rate, and I highly recommend attending next year.

Thanks for having me

This was truly a great time, being with all the speakers and local geeks even with the king of Denmark himself. Thanks again for organizing the Drupal presence, that helped us to absolutely feel this "everything just worked" approach. This was in great deal due to the FrOSCon organizer's efforts, but also your commitment.

FrOSCon 2007 was great

Jo Wouters - September 1, 2007 - 16:05

FrOSCon 2007 was great, indeed.

Robert, thank you for organizing the Drupal-track. There was a good mix of presentations for both new and advanced users.

Since our (the Belgian guys) knowledge of German is rather limited, we took the time during the German presentations to have a look at the other stuff that was going on. There was a very open spirit and a positive vibe all weekend.
The organization was flawless - only one minor issue: the free (as in beer) beers, offered by O'Reillys on Saturdaynight, were so small, we (and some others - yes, you know who you are!) completely lost count... :-))

This was an excellent warming up for DrupalCon Barcelona!

It was a great experience,

It was a great experience, thank you. It was nice to finally meet some of the developers in person as well to have the chance to give a talk.

Watching the videos my last bastion of confidence in my english is diminished.

You did great!

robertDouglass - September 3, 2007 - 15:25

Your English is really good. Don't despair! I'm not brave enough to get up and give a talk in German, so I've lots of respect for you and the others who presented in their 2nd language.
