Subscribe to taxonomy or content type and get notification email when new content is created

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to be able (as a registered user) to subscribe to a content type or content type and receive an email notification whenever new content is published in that taxonomy/content type ?

I'm having a hard time figuring out the subscription part of the job. I'm thinking Rules can take care of the mail notification part.
