I've installed what seems to be the latest version of the module (aug 22).
When I got to admin/user/access there are options to allow users to control privacy on standard content types, but not custom content types created with CCK. There's a setting to allow them to control privacy on their usernode (as well as page, story, etc.) but not on any custom content types.
(I'm attempting to build some sites that use usernode/nodeprofile and cckto create complex user profiles out of cck nodetypes, and want users to be able to make certain profile nodes private or available only to those on their buddylist.)

Coyote commentedSorry... the Drupal site gave an error when I originally posted, saying that it could not connect to the Database. I went back and dug around in the code, and formed a better question:
