Pathauto module

Description: The Pathauto module automatically generates path aliases for various kinds of content (nodes, categories, users) without requiring the user to manually specify the path alias. This allows you to get aliases like /category/my-node-title.html instead of /node/123. The aliases are based upon a "pattern" system which the administrator can control.

Be sure to read the new features and upgrade guide prior to upgrading your site. You will need to download/install token module prior to upgrading. See screenshots of the bulk delete and the admin settings screen. View a screencast of Using Pathauto and Views to get Index Aliases.

  • For most 6.x users, there are now official and dev releases of Pathauto 6.x-1.1 which is a direct port of the 5.x-2.x code. Be sure to read the 5.x to 6.x upgrade guide
  • For the daring 6.x users who want to test out the latest features, the 6.x-2.x version is where we are trying out fun new features and UI improvements. It is not as stable as the 6.x-1 series though.
  • For 5.x users - please use Pathauto 5.x-2.3. It is an update with new features and bug fixes as compared to the 5.x-1.x code. Transliteration has changed for 5.x so you will need to read the INSTALL.txt if you used Pathauto previously and expect transliteration to work the same (it won't!).

This version status note updated on 26 June 2008.

Please always use this project's issue tracker to report bugs, support and/or feature requests. that is a much more reliable way to get a response than forums, mailing lists, or personal emails.

Help Make Pathauto Better: The Pathauto issue queue is full of bugs and feature requests that need your help. Some need code, some just need ideas, reviews, or documentation. By reviewing an issue in the queue and trying to help it move forward you make it easier to provide a high quality module.

Known problems

  • Category module There are known problems with the Category module. If you experience problems with your category related tokens when using the Pathauto module please report those issues to the category module issue queue.
  • WYSIWYG Conflict FCKEditor, TinyMCE, etc. If you use a WYSIWYG editor, please disable it for the Pathauto admin page. Failure to do so may cause errors about "preg_replace" problems due to the <p> tag being added to the "strings to replace". See this issue for more details.

Recommended Related Modules:

  • Path Redirect when installed Pathauto will provide a new "Update Action" in case your URLs change
  • Global Redirect ensures that your content is only visiable at the one, best URL possible (i.e. requests for node/2 are forwarded to "alias-for-node-2").
  • Pathologic (untested, but may help with updating outdated links in existing content)
