I have Notifications along with Content Notifications, Taxonomy Notifications and User account tabs modules enabled.
I have "Content type and term" as the only enabled subscription type and "Subscriptions block" enabled for that subscriptions type.
I have "Direct operation" for subscribe/unsubscribe links.
I have a user role that has permissions for "Subscribe to content", "Subscribe to content type", "Create subscriptions" and "Maintain own subscriptions"
I also placed the "Page Subscriptions" block in a side bar.

When I log in as a user with the role I assigned the permissions to, I get the additional "Notifications" tab. On the "Overview" section of the Notification tab there is a link that says "Edit your notifications settings" which leads to the profile edit page. But no where on the edit profile form is a place to modify notifications; it has not changed since installing and configuring of the Notifications module.

So my question is, how can a user modify/add subscriptions? Also where from the admin side can users be manually added to subscriptions?

I've looked everywhere and have not found 7.x-1 documentation for how to do this through the UI.

Am I missing something?

Off the top of my head - have you installed the Notifications UI module? That might give you what you need.

Thanks for responding. Yes I do have Notifications UI enabled.

Just an update if I allow subscription by just content type when viewing a node of that content type I do see a subscription link and able to subscribe and see it listed but what I want to do is subscribe to a specific content type in certain vocabulary terms, which does not (for me anyways) display subscription links when a node or taxonomy page is viewed.
