The Drupalcon Barcelona 2007 schedule is out!

Do check out the schedule of the conference for our next Drupalcon Barcelona 2007. We have 84 sessions on a variety of topics, from showcases to API workshops, for any type of Drupal user, from evaluator to core programmer.

Any one can find a topic of interest at any time. There will be 4 rooms which can hold from 70 to more than 200 people plus 7 special rooms for BoFs. And as always, any attendee will be able to propose a Bof at any time.

Do you need a little help to decide whether to come to Barcelona? Check out the schedule and hurry to register to the event as we can "only" hold 400 attendees. Go to barcelona2007.drupalcon.org now and sign up!

Wednesday - Tuesday - Friday

Dave Cohen - September 6, 2007 - 18:37

Barcelona has a funny calendar. I didn't know that Tuesday came after Wednesday there!

;)

me know nothing, me from barcalone

bertboerland@ww... - September 6, 2007 - 18:53

okay okay, we will change this

(in fact I am from Haarlem. Not bashing our hardworking Spanish friends who have done great working organizing the conference!)

robertgarrigos - September 8, 2007 - 17:47

mmmmm

no, no, ME from Barcelona, and much proud of it :-)

Did you know that we had Faulty towers on tely in Barcelona many years ago, also? And Manuel couldn't be from Barcelona, of course. He was from Mexico! No one in Barcelona knew that, of course. I discovered it when I went to London to study music. Every one had an strange smile when I said I was from Barcelona. I couldn't understand it until I watch one of those episodes in London. It was funny, indeed.

So, my fault to put the Tuesday after the Wednesday, yes. So let's see how you would do so in Catalan:

Diumenge, Dimarts, Dimecres, Dilluns, Dissabte, Divendres, Dijous.

And the right order is.......?

(Price for the winner: a tasty beer somewhere)

yes i did

And Manuel couldn't be from Barcelona, of course. He was from Mexico!
Yes I did knew, I am a BIG fan of english humor (well, minus mr Bean naturally, though blackadder is great)

Manolo or so, wasnt it?

More trivia,
* On every opening scene you see the board with the name of the hotel. But do you? Nope, they read "Watery Fowls, Farty Tower, Flay Otters, Fatty Owls, Warty Towels, Flowery Twats and Farty Towels."
* the infamous "The Germans" episode ("They started it!") did not air in the Netherlands in the 70-ies, too close to the war
* also "The Kipper and the Corpse" was not aired in the Netherlands in the early 80-ies since it was considered bad taste to treat a corpse that way.

but we are drifting away...

by the way, you own me a beer:
"DILLUNS DIMARTS DIMECRES DIJOUS DIVENDRES DISSABTE DIUMENGE"

About time! I have been

sergiocaridad - September 6, 2007 - 22:07

About time! I have been waiting for the schedule to be available for quite a long time! Many of us needed to know which sessions would be held in which days, in order to book flights, hotel reservations, ask for days off at work and that stuff! (specially those who come from really far places)
Now I finally find out, with barely more than a week in advance... just to find out the final schedule has little to do with the preview? schedule found until yesterday in the con's website.
It's cool that sessions could be voted on, yeah, but IMHO this delay shows lack of organization...
I was hoping it would be really great to attend the con but now I'm slightly disappointed, I must say...

Sounds like you never organized a Drupalcon before ;)

webchick - September 7, 2007 - 00:02

As someone who has, I'd like to give a hearty round of applause to Bert and Robert for maneuvering around all of the various pitfalls and challenges. 4 days, 4 rooms, 80+ sessions. Holy smokes! And, from a quick glance through, no one expected to be 2 or 3 places at once. ;)

I would highly recommend against only showing up for a session or two, in any case. Drupalcons represent a tremendous opportunity to interact directly with the people who make Drupal what it is (and to become one yourself, as well). If you merely pick and choose, you might miss that lunch where there happens to be a discussion about the very challenge you've been banging your head against for the past week. Or the opportunity to ask the key question in one of the sessions that completely changes the way things are done. Or to provide feedback during the brainstorming session that takes Drupal to the next level. You get the picture.

thanks for your constructive criticism

My tuppence worth

J.B - September 7, 2007 - 10:02

I'm planning to attend two (almost)full days and two half days (need to spend SOME time holidaying with the partner!) and I think the schedule looks really well balanced, I've managed to plot a path through it which contains a lot of sessions I'm really looking forward to. This must have taken a lot of difficult organising and I for one am very grateful for all the hard work put in to provide such an interesting program.

Thanks guys!

Meetup

agentrickard - September 8, 2007 - 19:14

Don't forget the meetup for non-geek partners, so they can roam Barcelona together while we go to DrupalCON.

I understand you have done a

sergiocaridad - September 7, 2007 - 11:10

I understand you have done a hard job organizing the con, and that is a difficult thing. Many thanks for the effort.
I'm just saying that an event of this size should have had its schedule set weeks (or even months) before its start date. Maybe not an exact schedule, but at least the hours in the day it would be held! The first schedule showed sessions from 9 till 12 AM if I recall correctly. And wednesday was full of sessions, just the day I am not able to make it there. That got me really confused.

I totally agree with webchick, it is better to attend to the whole con, but that is not always possible. A properly set schedule would have helped a lot.

you are free to help however. which part do you want to organize?

And please, avoid the sarcasm. The standard answer "if you don't like it do it yourself" does not apply to all situations.

volunteer

bertboerland@ww... - September 7, 2007 - 19:02

it /is/ a volunteer organized event, the last one by the way things are going I am afraid, for a volunteer project so my open hand for you to open your hands wasnt sarcasm but an open hand.

if you want a complete drilled down conference, please visit a professional event, like oscon or so.

looking forward to shake your hand in Barcelona.

You are right, there was a

robertgarrigos - September 8, 2007 - 17:32

You are right, there was a post, don't remember where (maybe in groups?), that said 9h-12h sessions in the morning, as well as 13h-17h or maybe until 18h. And Wednesday was _always_ planned to be full of sessions. We are actually not too far: 10-13 and 14-17.

I agree with you that it would have been nice to have a final schedule maybe months in advance. And maybe the DIY don't apply to all situations but actually this is a DIY conference. It is not sarcasm. We have tried very hard to plan in advance. We started to work on this Drupalcon in September 2006 and we managed to open registration three months before the event. This never happened before with a Drupalcon. So we are improving.

The thing is that _before_ you can set the schedule you need to have achieved many other things. It has taken a lot to get to this point. I don't know if I will organize a Drupalcon ever again (I wouldn't mind doing it anyway) but if I do I would definitely try to set the schedule at least one month in advance so we keep improving.

What would it take to make good recordings of the sessions

ghankstef - September 7, 2007 - 00:35

I would love to go, but its just not feasible. I would kill to see the presentation on the New York Observer and several others. Are their plans to make recordings? I'd be willing to pitch a few dozen bucks or more to help the cause - thoughts?

A DVD collection might be good...

J.B - September 7, 2007 - 10:04

Dunno if it's too difficult to organise, maybe a bit late in the day, but it might be good if even a few of the 'key' sessions (I know, how do you choose!) were recorded well and made available as a DVD collection or similar that could be sold on d.o or whatever, downloads are great and all that, but video downloads can be huge. Maybe this is something that the Association has already looked at and thought not worth investing in, perhaps most peole would be happy with the downloads - if they were available?

Some people on the Drupalcon site are talking about trying to do some recordings, but there are concerns there too about the size of files, quality etc. Whatever, perhaps this is an area that could do with some sort of input/assistance from the Association? There seems to be people willing to get involved.

Anyway, really looking forward to Drupalcon, the guys have did an awesome job getting it together and the schedule looks great!

Live eventcasts

ximo - September 7, 2007 - 22:17

It's also possible to set up live webcasts from the sessions, using free solutions such as Ustream or Mogulus. All it takes is a laptop, a webcam and an internet connection. I suppose people want to download the videos and watch it at a normal time of day in their own timezone :) I just thought i'd mention the posibility.

We will have video streaming

robertgarrigos - September 8, 2007 - 17:50

We will have video streaming for the Picktek room (provided by the Citilab) and will try to have all videos recorded by anybody else hosted in the citilab's website (about to launch a drupal site)
