I've been setting up my blog using this great theme, but I'm having a hard time getting the slideshow at the top to work as the demo site does.

I got the title banner working from this: http://drupal.org/node/1585042, but I don't have slideshow controls being displayed. I've tried poking at the slideshow format on the view, but nothing appears in the block on theme. I'm figuring I'm missing some minor detail in the setup that causes the theme to display it, but I don't know what it is.

Wondering if anything was resolved with this.

I'm having a similar issue with the controls. While I have the arrows showing on the black banner during the hover they do not do anything.

The slideshow is working in the View design area - but on the live site just one image shows and is static.

Just thought about fact that I Exported the View from the Demo - perhaps older versions of Views or Views Slideshow is causing this - I will try building from scratch and report back.

UPDATE: I had the module "jQuery Update" installed as suggested by a previous theme I had started with - when I removed it the slider worked and the menus also work better!

why don't you try out TB Sirate Starter? This helps you build a site like TB Sirate demo easily.
