Usernode needed for views to see users in drupal 6?

Hi, I've read somewhere (tried to locate the specific topic but can't find it again) that in the next drupal version that views will have access to the user table and that usernode will not be needed to provide this function.

Is this correct? I'm currently using usernode and nodeprofile for the display of users but am thinking this will be obsolete in the next release, I haven't gone live with it yet so could go back to using core profile module instead. Thoughts?
