Hi,

We're trying to find ways of promoting our new Drupal powered site and have added our site to Feedster.com. Are there any other similar sites to Feedster that can take our RSS feed?

Also, we've submitted the site to the DMOZ directory and MSN Search. Are there any other ways we can promote our site, preferably for free!

Regards,

Marcus.

Have you enabled drupal.module and configured it to submit your site to the Drupal featured sites RPC list?

I'd submit it to yahoo and google as well.

Find sites similar to yours and do some link trading.

my two cents

Thanks Aran,

No, we hadn't thought of the drupal.module. We'll take a look at it. Yes, we've submitted to Google, but Yahoo! are charging $299 dollars. Ouch!

Marcus.

$299? Wow. Last time I submitted to yahoo it was free, granted that was like 7 years ago...

That's capitalism for ya'

The submission to the Yahoo! search engine is still free, but Yahoo! now charge for a Directory listing...

For web sites that do not feature adult content or services, the Yahoo! Express service costs US$299 (nonrefundable) for each Directory listing that is submitted. Furthermore, for each listing accepted into the Directory, there is a recurring annual fee of US$299 to maintain the listing in the Directory for the subsequent year.

At least DMOZ aren't charging, yet!

That 299 is for inclusion only into the Yahoo! directory. Search.yahoo.com is pretty quick in getting your site indexed, especially if you enable the drupal mod to list your site here. (inbound links help you get found).

I always recommend "seeding" your site with Overture and Adwords Pay-Per-Click ads to spread the word. It isn't hard to justify or make revenue from .5/.10 clicks to your site - especially if you make a little return on selling something or offering ads.

The best thing to do is to keep updating content - add 1 new page a day that is clear, concise & unique and especially use "natural" urls - ie enable the friendly url module and give your pages english descriptions.

http://www.webmasterworld.com is an invaluable resource when it comes to superb marketing & seo techniques & ideas. Drupal amazingly works really well because of its clean code, standards support and ease of integrating friendly urls and such.

Livejournal syndicated account with your rss is a great promotion between potential readers of your site. I`d tuned it in 2003 and today i`ve over 500 readers.

And today we`re in top 100 of LJ-syndicate accounts even we`re not on english (only russian inside) :

p.s.
You`ll need a payed-lj-user to set up lj-syndycated account.
