Now I can allow/disallow this module per user-role. That's OK, but I'd like to offer the password protection feature on selected content-type only. Is it possible?

No it's not possible at this time but in the near future it will be implemented. Sorry for answering so late and thanks for mentioning a worthwhile idea.

This feature turned to a regression. I removed the old admin page node type setup and replaced with an access control solution. Now if you wish to protect specific node types only, give permission to those node types under protected_node access control, you wish to be able to protect.
