Introducing the need to load an additional javascript library seems silly when Drupal 5 comes bundled with jquery. Why not use a jquery interface powered image cropper.

http://interface.eyecon.ro/demos has a image cropper demo. The jquery interface library is already provided by another Drupal module too.

You're absolutely right, it should be done with jquery.

So far I've been a bit scared of the javascript stuff, not having a lot of good experience with it, but this sounds like a challenge ;o)
