Since november 2011 there is a patch for this module. I think that the maintainer didn't get that. I recreated the patch and posted a quick instructions how to get this module working on drupal 7.

Is it possible that I can be the maintainer so that we can get this module on drupal 7.

I am following the instructions for Dealing with unsupported (abandoned) projects:

I am requesting the maintainership of the Views Table Group module.

For 5 weeks is no activity on this issue. I contacted the maintainer but I didn't get an answer. Is it possible that I can become the maintainer so that I can create a drupal 7 version of this module?

The views table group is a very practical one, and although there is a fully functional upgrade patch available, it's a shame that there is still no D7 branch. I would be in favor of yannickoo becoming a co-maintainer so that the development can move forward.

I sent a message to the current maintainer, requesting him to comment here. If no reply is received in the next 2 weeks, the project can be transferred.

I apologize for the inconvenience, however, transferring ownership of a project is a drastic measure, and the maintainer still has recent activity on drupal.org.

Since I was not sure how you contacted the maintainer (via the issue queue, contact tab, ...) and what the exact wording of your message to him was, I think it is prudent to make sure that the maintainer is unable or unwilling to maintain the module before transferring ownership, hence my message to him.

It's moot now, but by my reading, http://drupal.org/node/251466 makes no exception for otherwise active contributors on abandoned projects.
