I see two commits which could be merged sind 6 months or so and have two additional patches.
Right now I'm unsure if i should contibute these patches or fork this project into my own sandbox ??

johnvYou should always post your patches.
Even if the maintainer is not active, your fellow-module users will react, test and improve/extend your patch.
derEremit commentedmy patch has been supplied and
I'd like to officially request co-maintainer status ;)
There are a few RTBC which i already have successfully included in my private branch
Comment #3
gregglesBetter title based on #2.
gregglesAdding myself to this request - if derEremit is no longer interested I'd like to do just a few things:
#1680974: Missing quote in INSTALL.TXT
#1469908: Remove LICENSE.txt from Git repository
#1444208: Multisite support: Specify remote file path
And then create a new release.
derEremit commentedStill interested. ;)
msonnabaum commentedGreggles is very responsive project maintainer and I would love to see him added as co-maintainer.
greggles@msonnabaum - you're too sweet!
derEremit and I chatted via email and he remains interested. I'm trying to balance how many projects I really need to have commit access to so I'll +1 him in theory as being more available. He does have git vetted user status. :)

netaustin commentedI'm glad I needed to grab a new copy of this module today and saw this—I've given most privileges to @greggles and @derEremit and "edit maintainers" to @msonnabaum. Did I miss anyone?
gregglesThanks, netaustin :)
For anyone interested, there are email notifications of issues at http://drupal.org/project/issues/subscribe-mail/stage_file_proxy The queue seems pretty quiet so it definitely won't be a flood of emails in the inbox.
The one where I could use the most guidance is #1014466: Admin interface - for some reason I'm not sure that makes sense, so netaustin I'd love your feedback on it.
