login problem
troym559 - September 18, 2007 - 00:48
When I login to drupal as administrator it just goes to a blank off/white screen. Then I have to hit refresh or back arrow in order to see my drupal site. It works just fine after I hit the back arrow or refresh. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Or how it can be fixed. It started right after I inabeled the Clean URL module. I disabled the module when I discovered the problem but it is still happening so I am not sure of it was the Clean URL module or somthing else.

=-=
version of PHP?
version of Apache?
exact version of Drupal?
installed through host? or from drupal.org?
any contrib modules installed?
blank screen errors are apache errors, have you checked your apache logs ?
The search tool on Drupal.org really does work.

A) should consider using a real drupal installation, as updating your site will be painful later.
B) Drupal 5.1 is an outdated version with known security issues that were patched with the 5.2 release. You should seriously consider updating your site. Another reason not to use a one click install provided by a 3rd party.
C) with all those modules you no doubt have to increase your memory limit in php.ini. more about this can be found in the handbooks under Troubleshooting FAQ's.
My assumption is that your apache error logs will expose a memory exhaust error. You didn't post the apache error thus all anyone can do is guess.
The search tool on Drupal.org really does work.

I checked the error log
I checked the error log repport in my cpanel and there was nothing there.

PHP default's memory to 8MB. This means you account can use 8MB of memory. With all those modules installed, I guarantee you are using more then 8MB. I would not trust a cpanel error log, I would seek out the actual apache error logs which are more then likely stored above your public root.
You still have other issues that should be tended to. Using Fantastico adds a variable to the mix that many of us don't have as we install drupal on our own. With Drupal 5.x use of fantastico has been nullified.
set up a DB
set up a DB user
upload Drupal
run install.php
add DB name and DB username
drupal is installed.
This will also allow you to run a secure installation by using Drupal 5.2
Good Luck.

My apologies I am not at home where I can get personal email. More often then not I do not respond to email seeking support. That's what the forums are for. Thanks for your understanding.

I looked through my cpanel but I didn't see anywhere to increase my php memory. How is this done?
Thanks

it is done with php.ini as previously stated.
please use the handbooks link at the top of this page, navigate to the Troubleshooting FAQ's page, find the memory exhausted link, read, test inspect.
alternatively, you can use the search here at drupal.org and use php.ini as your search term as well as increase memory.
This will not be done through cpanel and it has nothing to do with any drupal files. it is a file stored above your user root.
use phpinfo() in a php file and call it into your browser to find the location of php.ini on your server. GIYF = Google is your friend with learning about phpinfo()
lastly, you may want to check with your host to find out if you can even run a custom php.ini, if you can they will email it to you if you ask them nicely. They may even increase the amount of memory alotted if you ask nicely.
