Embedding Gallery 2 into Drupal

jaydigga - September 19, 2007 - 05:27

Is there anyone out there that has a drupal site with Gallery embedded? I tried to embed it a while ago and then gave up because it was frustrating. Heres my problem.

I get this error

* Embedded Gallery2 Status:
o 'URI of Gallery2' variable: Error
+ Either your server does not support the automated verification of the Gallery 2 location or the supplied g2Uri points to a incompatible Gallery 2 version (older than 2.1)
o PHP Memory Limit: Success
o Gallery2 Image Assist (g2image) Status: Warning
+ g2image does not seem to be installed for TinyMCE mode in the required directory (/modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/g2image), or the directory is not writable. Please see the INSTALL.txt for instructions.
o Overall Status: Error
+ You need to fix the above errors before Gallery2 will be embedded in Drupal.
* The configuration options have been saved.

Gallery 2 is installed properly at http://myspot.jaymediaspot.com/gallery2/main.php. The url rewrite works properly in Gallery 2 per url configs page under testing tab on gallery 2. Under the setup tab, my main site that I want to embed it to myspot.jaymediaspot.com automatically filled in with allow empty referrer checked. So gallery 2 by itself is straight. My main site http://myspot.jaymediaspot.com has clean urls enabled. My server is through a shared web-hosting company using Apache Linux. I ran across this before and I can never bypass this. So please I need some help. I even unchecked auto detect settings and manually put where the embed.php file was at which is the url of gallery 2 and it came up saying that it could not find it when it is there. I will put this forum topic in gallery 2 home site too and see if anyone knows also.

Worked for us

While I cannot claim to be a Gallery 2 expert, we were able to install Gallery 2.2 and the Gallery module without any of the problems you describe. We simply installed the module and Gallery2 per instructions, and everything just worked. The whole thing took us about 30 minutes, and we had no prior experience with either Gallery2 or the Gallery module. You can check out a stone-simple example on our LiteJazz demo site. I wish I could provide more specific help regarding the errors you are seeing, but at least I can assure you that it should work if installed correctly.

Did you have to disable url rewrite in gallery 2 to do it? Are you using Drupal 5.2? I gotta say your site is awesome. It's looks clean and to the point. I'm using the same theme also. My site is http://jaymediaspot.com

Question

jaydigga - September 21, 2007 - 22:33

I did it per instructions also. I already had Drupal 5 setup already. So the only thing I needed to do was install gallery2 in a sub folder called gallery2. That worked out well by itself http://jaymediaspot.com/gallery2. Now I installed the gallery module to my already installed Drupal 5. Now I have problems getting http://jaymediaspot.com/gallery2 to embed in Drupal 5. I seen your layout. It's suppose to be easy but it's not. Am I missing a step? Do I need to have two gallery2 sites. Simple instructions are install Drupal which I did to http://jaymediaspot.com (my root site with clean urls enabled), install gallery2 standalone which I did at http://jaymediaspot.com/gallery2/. Now both of these sites work perfect now. It's when I get to the last step. Install gallery module into drupals module folder. I have no problem enabling it. Then I go to configs page on my root site where I installed gallery module. Now this is where all the fun stops. Yes it's suppose to be easy I hear but I inputted where the gallery2 site resides like the instructions to tell me to. In this case /gallery2/ with auto-detect checked. I get

* Embedded Gallery2 Status:
o 'URI of Gallery2' variable: Error
+ Either your server does not support the automated verification of the Gallery 2 location or the supplied g2Uri points to a incompatible Gallery 2 version (older than 2.1)

Where did I go wrong? I did what the instructions said. Is there something I'm not suppose to have. Heres what I have. Shared web-hosting company on Apache Linux, MySQL 5.0.45, Drupal 5.2 CMS app as my root site. I took the gallery2 part down so I can start over but here's my idea layout

http://jaymediaspot.com/ This is my main site I want to embed gallery2 in.
http://jaymediaspot.com/gallery2 This is the gallery2 site I want to embed.

I'm lost. What steps did you go through that made it so easy. What do you mean by right out the box? Maybe I need to do a right out the box method since I'm new to gallery2 also.

right out of the box, just means it worked without doing anything.

did you try /gallery2 as your URI ? or http://jaymediaspot.com/gallery2 as the URL which can also be used ?

I'd like to know what version of the Gallery.module you are using 2.x-dev ? 1.0 ? It may help to diagnose the problem you are having, because I too had no problems setting G2 up inside drupal see here, personal.verymisunderstood.com click on the gallery link at the top of the page.

my folder structure is as follows

drupal installed in public root
gallery installed in a g2 folder inside the drupal installation

my URI = /g2/

edit, I se you answered my other questions as I was typing this response.

It's working now. I downloaded the latest even though it's still beta http://drupal.org/node/174536. It has a better interface for configs which made the embedding real easy. I like this way better than the original gallery module. Thanx.

moved topic to more relevenant forum as this has nothing to do with module development

could you please state which version of the Gallery.module is in use?
could you please state your folder structure ?

could you also state which instructions you are using ?

Gallery module version is 5.x-1.0

Folder structure
http://jaymediaspot.com is my main root site I want to embed gallery2 in
http://jaymediaspot.com/gallery/ is sub-folder where gallery2 resides.

All instructions used
Install and readme files from gallery module folder.

Rename directory

vsr - September 22, 2007 - 02:29

Warning - Do not name your G2 directory "gallery", call it something else (eg "gallery2"). Calling it "gallery" will cause a conflict with the Drupal gallery.module as Drupal assumes that http://www.example.com/gallery refers to the Drupal module.

Jay, I think you need to

Steel Rat - September 22, 2007 - 02:52

Jay, I think you need to re-read the instructions, you're missing a couple things, mainly the one that was last posted, the folder name of your Gallery2 install should not be called Gallery. Mine is called G2 on the RPGMapShare.com site.

I believe the instructions for the Gallery.module states to disable g2image in your Gallery2 installation while performing the embed, which can then be enabled when you're done.

Here are my settings:

Drupal is installed in the root at rpgmapshare.com
Gallery2 is installed in rpgmapshare.com/modules/g2

Drupal Gallery Module directory settings:

URI of Gallery2: /modules/g2/
Location of Gallery2 (Autodetected value): /home/rpgmap/public_html/modules/g2/
Embed URI (Autodetected value): /index.php?q=gallery

I also disabled URL Rewrite in Gallery2 while performing the embed.

Hope this helps.

It is working now. I just

jaydigga - September 22, 2007 - 03:17

It is working now. I just had to download the latest gallery module which is still in beta but it had a better interface for configs which made the embedding easier. I did not have to do anything in gallery. And before i did not call the folder the gallery resides in gallery. I called it gallery2. What I did was installed gallery2 all over again in a sub-folder called mediacentral. Uploaded the beta ver gallery module to my core sites module folder. Went through the new interface to embed and now it's done.

Funny, I tried the latest

Steel Rat - September 22, 2007 - 03:38

Funny, I tried the latest beta gallery.module and it didn't work for me at all. The error messages were so cryptic I didn't even bother, just went back to the stable version.

FYI, site looks nice, except for the big flash screen at the top above the normal page. Not sure it that's intentional, but it's off-putting.

Comments

jaydigga - September 22, 2007 - 16:54

Thanx for the comment. Please share your reasons for why the flash up top is off-setting. I do like to get all visual and technical criticism of my site whether good or bad so I'll know what to do along the way of development. The site is mainly for creating media not only from a technical but also from an artistic view. Up top is just a splash page. It will change from time to time depending upon my mental state of mind when I'm creating. It'll get the attention of those who think colors instead of black and white. I'm pretty sure users know to scroll down and see the rest of the content. But I do appreciate your feed back.

Offputting because it is right at eye level. My Opinion if you want to do something like that, create it vertically and use it on a sidebar. the pulsating JM's are a bit ameturish. Flash should be used sparringly. As should movement. Flash that moves constantly become eyesores. At some point your flash should stop without the "points" that need to be made left to be seen.

It doesn't fit with the rest

Steel Rat - September 23, 2007 - 20:38

It doesn't fit with the rest of the layout. If it's a splash it should be on a separate page and probably centered all around. It's not aligned with the rest of the page, and is a repeat of the content area. People really shouldn't need to scroll to see your primary content.

Hopefullly we're talking about the same thing. The flash I'm talking about sits totally above the drupal theme, almost as if it was a mistake, lol.

Feed back

jaydigga - September 26, 2007 - 03:57

I appreciate the feed back. I took the flash up top off. I figured it was just too much. My main hump to get over now is the structure of my site and how all data is manipulated. Hopefully this will be my online machine not only to make money but to build a profile and a community of those doing the same thing I'm doing. Before I touched Drupal I had no clue about php scripting but now I enjoy it. Of course alot of modules and scripts are already made and I appreciate that but once you keep tweaking at the scripts until you get it custom to your needs then you might as well call yourself skilled. There's still a lot of work in the background and eventually I'll be making my own scripts based off what I seen so far. This work ain't easy but I love it. I'm a b-boy nerd now. Thanx for your feed back.

Firefox logo

jaydigga - September 26, 2007 - 04:12

One more thing. I see on your site Infinite Ordnance that you have a Firefox logo at the bottom. Are you running off of Drupal 4.x or 5.x. I have 5.x and could not seem to find the module for my version. Is there a module for 5.x. Or maybe it's just a logo you just put in there. The one I'm looking for was a module I used in another CMS app where the logo Get Firefox only came up if the app detected the browser was IE.

That's just a logo I got

Steel Rat - September 27, 2007 - 13:08

That's just a logo I got from the Firefox site and placed in the footer, along with code FF suggests for promotional purposes. Infinite Ordnance is Drupal 5.2.

There is at least one theme that promotes FF in some way, but I've never used it.
