Adding a module like https://drupal.org/project/picture (which will be part of Drupal 8) with associated configuration changes could be really helpful for making responsive images load in much less time.

Hey @populist,

Have you seen this module in your evaluation? http://drupal.org/project/resp_img (2.x branch)

It seems that this module takes into account most of the features discussed here: http://drupal.org/node/1170478

Interesting. I am also looking at http://drupal.org/project/adaptive_image since it integrates with image styles pretty cleanly.

Let's make this active and I think http://drupal.org/project/resp_img might be our ticket to ride. It is getting some good developer traction, supports the Media module, and has a lot of other magic. We have a pretty good responsive pattern already in Panopoly, but just want to make sure to reduce the size of the page load for mobile devices which this module will help to do (although their might be simpler options).

Here is solid information on the topic from Mr. Chris Ruppel - http://fourkitchens.com/blog/2013/02/07/responsive-images-drupal-impleme...

Seems that https://drupal.org/project/picture is the way to go now.

Yes picture module is in Drupal8. It would be great to have it in Panopoly.

I have finish my front work and now I don't need it, but I just thought that CKEditor module has integration with picture. Maybe while it comes the final solution, it can be a good aproach. I leave it here, just in case some one searchs for picture or for the developers :)

I am enjoying learning Panopoly a lot and my client is happy on the easy way to actualize. Thanks :)

FlexSlider also supports Picture.

I've just discovered that Open Atrium has picture in Panels pages and works. So maybe you can check how they have done it :)

I made a mistake and Picture module doesn't comes with Open Atrium, I installed it to use with Views at the beginning. But it works out of the box with Panels :) The bad thing is that has the same problem with formatters that I reported in #2443499: User profile: Unable to chage image field style formatter options because they don't get saved

Another module that works with Picture and I would suggest you to include in Panopoly because I think it would help with image fields that can have horizontal or vertical format.

Has there been any more discussion on this? We've been having trouble getting Picture to work with our Panopoly setup and found this issue.

candelas’s picture

@jwestcu, Drupal 7 is in maintenance mode #2530998: [meta] Get Panopoly 1.x into maintenance mode (so we can focus on Drupal 8) because of #2549709: [meta] Panopoly 2.x for Drupal 8 battle plan but when they finish, they will work the road to upgrade and I imagine that this will get resolved :)

dsnopek’s picture

@jwestcu: What specific problems have you had? While Picture-module like functionality is built into Drupal 8 core, Drupal 7 will be around for a few more years, so we'd like to at least not prevent users from using the Picture module with Drupal 7 today! This issue is about including the Picture module in Panopoly by default, so it'd be great if you made a new issue with your problems. Thanks

@jwestcu, today I am upgrading an old Open Atrium that has Panopoly and I was able to use picture. Thanks @dsnopek and others for making it possible. I would close this issue, since any user can make it :)
