Announcement Module Suggestions Please

I'm looking for an announcement module to replace the blog that I'm currently using to post announcements to the front page. It works fine but it's kind of clunky since it says view the users blog etc. Is there a better module that I should be using for this purpose. I don't want to use the event module for this so I'm looking for an alternative. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
