Record which country the ip address for drupal downloads come from

Having attended Dries speech at the end of Drupalcon, Dries statistics on the number of downloads was interesting but at a very high level. I thought it would be useful and beneficial to know the breakdown by country for drupal downloads. I briefly talked to Dries about this and he says we only keep 30 days log of the ip addresses.

So would it be possible to enhance drupal.org to record the stats of downloads by country, and also month, year.
