Switch "Enable spell check" does not work - spell check is allways on

The checkbox "Enable spell check" (Display "Did you mean … ?" above search results.) has no effect.
Spell checking is always on and can't be turned off. That's not just a performance issue, the "Did you mean … ?" is always shown if the spell checker returns something.
