I'd like to propose that we institute a new policy for the Featured section of the d.o. marketplace:
This kills two birds with one stone: it strongly encourages organizations to market their contributions to the Drupal community, and it makes it much easier to vet requests to gain access to the Featured Provider section.
I also think we should add /drupalgive feeds to organization pages in the marketplace, but I'll open a second ticket for that once I see what the general sentiment is here.

z.stolar commentedThis probably makes sense. What else is needed right now to be featured?
lisarex commentedI am a +1 on this idea. It kills another bird too... it'll weed out the organizations that just want a quick 'win' ... they'll really have to do work for featured status.
If this requirements gets adopted, it means we'll need to contact existing Featured organizations and let them know of the additional requirement, and if they don't have it in place, give them 5(?) weeks to comply.

z.stolar commentedIt takes minutes to add such a page (http://drupal.org/project/drupalgive) and few more to fill it up, so 5 weeks should be sufficient.

alex ua commentedI think we'll probably want to announce the marketplace going live at some point, so why don't we simply add it to that announcement? 5 weeks seems fine to me as well.

laughnanI really like this idea!

tvn commentedThis is a great idea, specifically for companies. But I think we might also want to leave a room for exceptions. For example we might list freelancers in the Featured section, which contribute a lot to the community, but don't even have a website.
As for announcement - I'm planning front page post about Marketplace this week, so we can announce then, along with the change or "Countries served" vocabulary to "Locations".

tvn commentedHere is an issue for marketplace post #1795928: Promote Marketplace updates post to the Front page. The post is currently unpublished so only site maintainers can access it.
alex ua commented@tvn I think exceptions are fine, but I think it's an easy standard for even the smallest of shops to adopt.

gregglesAs easy as it may be there are likely to be some people who disagree for the sake of disagreeing or because it rubs them the wrong way philosophically ;)
I suggest we just add this as a suggestion and not a requirement. Then it can factor in with all the other things we consider.

alex ua commented@greggles, Makes sense, though how many of the firms that are currently listed will care enough to comply if they aren't compelled to do so? My worry is that if you make it a "strong suggestion" then it will become a de facto rule, and the only exceptions will be those who got onto the list before the rule was in place. In other words, it seems like an unfair barrier for new companies if old companies are exempted.
gregglesRight, I'm saying it shouldn't be a requirement of new firms either, but also a strong suggestion.
tvn commentedI'm not sure either that currently listed companies will add a page if it's not a requirement. On the other hand I can see greggles's point in #10. So here is how drupalgive is mentioned in the post now:
I guess we change "requirement" on "strong suggestion" and remove the line about 5 weeks.

tvn commentedThe post is out and I added a line about drupalgive to the Marketplace guidelines http://drupal.org/node/1735708/revisions/view/2379346/2379620
