Description

hello,
First of all, I would like to say thank for a great module and I will be implementing it on my site soon.

I have a couple of feature requests which I'm sure will make this module even better for all other drupallers.

I have written about it here http://drupal.org/node/177937 and I thought I'd take the issue straight to UserLink module people.

Basically, I want to enable a feature on my small social netwrking site that would enable friends to share links that they find on internet very easily.

I have noticed that www.teamsugar.com -- the social networking site that runs on drupal has this kind of feature. You can see the brief video here http://geeksugar.com/83306

Basically, just like on Facebook or VodPod...
1) I want my users to drag-n-drop a "Share on my Drupal" button to their browser's toolbar. (just like on Facebook posts)
2) And afterwards when they surf the internet and if they find something interesting that they want to share with their Buddylist contacts, all that that they need to do is just click that button in the their browser toolbar (and it will automatically appear on their mySite or in their blog and on their friends' "recent posts from my buddies" block.
3) And when others see the link they will be able to VoteUp/Down on it (which I think is already possible since UserLink makes them into nodes) and also share it with their own friends, and so on

So far I have tried the Userlink module, but there is no "Share on my Drupal" button ... therefore a user has to return to the site in order to post the link mannually... and as we know the rule: the user is is always lazy!!!

I'm wondering is UserLink module could develop this kind of functionality -- so that links could be added remotely, and so that Title, description and taxonomy tags could be added while not actually being on the site.

Are there any other drupal modules that you think I could use for this kind of URL sharing functionality???

i have seen this request or a similar one many times, but haven't done anything to get the code into the userlink module. take a look at the issues queue -- http://drupal.org/project/issues/userlink -- and see what you can find. this issue has a few different solutions -- http://drupal.org/node/79655 -- if one of them works for you, please let us know.

the prepopulate module will allow you to get to the "node/add/userlink" page with fields filled in, so i think that might be a required module to help you get this accomplished.

thanks for the pointer.
There is a lot of code there, but unfortunately I don't know any PHP or javascript.

I'm wondering if incorporating that kind of bookmarklet button is on your roadmap of future developments of this module?

Actually, I think this project should go away after Drupal 5.x. It's pretty easy to build up the same or better functionality nowadays using CCK.

Take a look at this How To Create A Bookmarklet article and see if it's useful for you. I haven't read through it, but it looks like it may be close to what you are looking for. A bit more searching around may also get you to a more complete solution.

If you find something that lets you replace userlink, please post your findings here.
