It will be invaluable!

Optionally, it would be nice to limit user's ability to change the pre-populated taxonomy... but aybe that feature is already around in some other module. Just being able to pre-populate will make a HUGE difference.

There is such a module http://drupal.org/project/prepopulate ... and there is a patch in the queue for that which allows you to optionally hide the prepopulated field.
