If I have a drupal page node that doesn't require scroll bars, then greybox works fine.

If I place the greybox link down at the bottom of a long page node, when clicked, the grey box pops up, but at the top of the page, you have to scroll up again to see the greybox.

any ideas appreciated.

Have a look at: http://drupal.org/node/162997
A newer version of greybox.js seems to fix it!
