I’m thinking about organizing one Drupal Theme Contest with a money prize. I was thinking to offer around 250 €, but, I believe, if more people join in, we could increase this amount of money and create something even more attractive.

All the developed themes would have to be offered to the community and as such, we would probably help increasing radically the number of themes offered to Drupal webmasters.

Only new themes would be accepted on the contest and I would propose that the winner would be chosen by the Drupal.org users.

Who wants to contribute (with money), to the organization of this contest?

There has been talk for a theme contest, but it is not easy to organise. A Drupal theme is a lot more complicated than say a Wordpress template. But there is definitely interest in having an official theme contest, so why not do that?

I'm ready to put the money on it. My objective is getting a theme I can apply to three commercial sites I have. So, I want to put some small conditions on the contest (for example, I want each theme to have three colour combinations, one with blue base, other with yellow base, and other still to choose). But I'm open to discuss all this, in a way we can get something that is useful for all the Drupal community..

This is just personal opinion, but perhaps 3 color combinations is asking a bit much... Is this for you or for the community? :)

Other things you may want to consider:

*Are you going to run this yourself, or run it officially through Drupal.org (req. permission and cooperation of those that run the site)

*How are you going to collect the donations?

*Technical requirements for the themes (what version of Drupal, specific engine, how much should be themed, etc)

*How will the voters vote?

*Timeline?

*How do you decide what is a 'new' entry?

If you get lots and lots of entries, you may want to consider a la American idol style and have a panel of developers pick the top 10 or so, and then let the public pick their favorite. In which case, judging criteria is also important.
