A follow-up on http://drupal.org/node/1580348.
In order for the entityreference formatter to be able to format product references:
1. Add the product reference field to the field types list of the entityreference formatter.
2. Define the target column and target entity type In the product reference field's settings.

No need, we'll do #1783462: "Rendered product" new formatter for Product reference for Commerce.

Actually with #1472596: Free tagging entity reference to a vocabulary does not create the term, only allows existing terms and #1586428: Integrate entyreference from nodes to terms with core taxonomy_index ER will be better than taxonomy terms.
