When we're going beyond inserting simple tokens (like node title) to more complex ones (like a filefield or imagefield) we really need to be able to choose which view mode is going to be shown. Right now, I'm not sure which one it uses, but I'm pretty sure there's no way to choose it.

If I read this correctly you're talking about controlling the output of tokens themselves, which is an issue for the Token module. Token Filter does not alter the behaviour of tokens beyond making them available in filtered text fields.

I would normally move this issue to the Token project but it is very old so I will just close it for now.

Please feel free to resurrect it and place it in the Token project if required.
