Hello Drupal Nation,
We have a news site which has been up for over 1 yr. For the past (4) days, the site main home page url: http://mysite.com -- does not seem to load, only displays "blank white page".
However, I am able to access site and site does load, for instance, at url: http://mysite.com/admin --- http://mysite.com/admin/settings
After seeming to exhaust the exploratory efforts of our host company support(thePlanet) for the past four days, I am turning, even as per their suggestion, to the Drupal forum for direction.
Below, I have included a summary of the tech support inquires and responses to bring you up to speed. The gamit of the responses from a host compay always makes me a bit leery as to their real knowledge of a matter. We have eliminated our actual domain url from this post as we have a live news site which gets indexed by search engines and we do not desire to have such a matter as this posted to the world wide web. We will provide actual url directly if desired. Thanking u in advance for your time and assistance --Bill
Our current site config and setup is as follows:
Drupal: 4.7.5
Linux -- dedicated server

Current Memory Setting:

Memory @ php.ini =64M
Memory @ .htaccess=64M
PHP Test Status:
We are able to call php info at: http://mysite.com/info.php
Apache Test:
HTTPD services ping and shows in running status.

Bill,
There's a problem with your Drupal installation. Take a look at http://mysite.com/info.php. As you can see, the domain loads fine. The only file having a problem is index.php. Please try reinstalling Drupal or using a different Content Management System. Have a nice day.

I changed the /etc/resolv.conf file to include one of the name servers from Houston building 1 (.38) and it speed up the time it was taking to resolve DNS entrys.

Dear Planet,
This is the second ticket today on this matter. The first ticket # was: 4277782. Again, our site @ mysite.com is not loading. Your support tech, Mr. Herb C., did some sort of adjustments to dns resolver and the site came back up. Site back down again after about 1 hour.
We have a news site and this type of down time is not good. Could someone please advise.
Thanks,
Bill

Per our phone conversation this has been resolved by correcting the resolving nameservers and restarting networking. Please let us know if this happens again.
Thank you,

Dear Planet,
The issue with our site (mysite.com)not loading, showing only a white page has happened again. The above resolution, resolved by Matt V. allowed us to access our site again.
I would not imagine that resolving the nameservers again would be necessary, but perhaps restarting networking will again solve the problem. For this to continue to occur, there must be a larger issue somewhere.
Please advise when networking has been restarted.
Thanks,
Bill

Dear Bill
After looking into this issue, it was found that your .htaccess was not allowing your index.php to load. I was able to load index.html with no issues. After moving .htaccess to .htaccess.2007.09.27, we were able to bring up your site with no issues. Please verify that you are able to load your site.

Dear Customer,
As near as I can tell, the php script is returning exactly what it's supposed to--a blank screen. If you are having trouble getting Drupal to work, your best bet may be to try some forums dedicated to that product.

Chudz,
Thank u for your reply! I am currently running Drupal 4.7.5. Where do i find the tarbell for it? I believe at Drupal.org, the current downloads that I see are all 5.0. -- also, is the index.php file contained tarbell along with the other core files for 4.7.5?
Please advise.
Thanks,
I found 4.7.5 tar --- do I just extract @ public_html?
Chudz,
I found the 4.7.5 tar @ Drupal.org. Our Drupal install is located on our server at public_html. As such, do I simply extract the tar at the public_html directory, thereby overwriting existing files?
Please advise,
Thanks,

Dear Chudz,Drupal Nation
Downloaded a fresh 4.7.5 install from the Drupal archieve and uploaded to our server. Separately, uploaded fresh copy of index.php file. The result is that we continue to get white screen.
We have an active news site which has been down now for 4 days. Can anyone direct as how to solve this problem. It seems to just have appear out of the blue. No one from server admininistration had been under the hood at all.
All/any help appreciated.
Thanks,
What is in the error log.
What is in the apache error log? That will give you a hint as to what is wrong.
What is in the error log
Hello Spatz,
Thank u for your response. I searched the apache logs fairly thoroughly last night. Tracked the log particularly from approx about 3 days ago which I first started noticing the current issue thru yesterday 9/27/07.
Did not see anything that really stood out, except, the below two messages which I took note of because I did not understand them in terms of their relevance. Due to the current issues, several server/services restarts have been transacted, so did not know if the messages were a result of this:
1) Mutex @ httpd removed
2) Accept_mutex_on -- caught sigterm -- shutting down
3) Child Process [various pid numbers] does not exist
Please advise if I can provide further information.
Thank u again for your time & interest,
