SUGGESTION:
Being an older man (60 yrs old to be exact) we date back to the 80's and FIDONet, GTPowerNet, RBBSNet, net al...
A feature I miss from those days that would make Drupal more community oriented was the ability to write in what was then called a conference area now known as forums ... then exchange conference areas with other GT or Fido based programs.. in other words, share what was posted at our website in the forums with other drupals in our "net" .. and vise versa.
Cron could be used to package and ship on a scheduled basis - the ability to receive and unpack into the proper forums in the database could also be cron powered.
How do you know what forums we have - and how do I know what forums you have..?
It was all done by subscription. If we had say a PTSD forum and you had PoW/MIA we would subscribe to your forum and if you wanted our PTSD talk you could subscribe to ours.
If we did not have an area setup for PoW/MIA the unpacking/insertion program would write the area - same could happen with a drupal setup.. ( like a plugin ) where the area and data could be inserted automagically.
If your not sure, grab an antique copy of Fido ( or write Tom Jennings the father of FidoNet - from California ) fire it up. Mail tossers are their and I know you can find a copy of frontdoor ( how we scheduled pickup and delivery's ).. I think you'd enjoy the experience as well as see some things from the past that had a lot of bang for small size *.exe files and support files.
Just a thought.

Isolation of Forums
The way forums work these days - one has to visit your site to participate, nothing I know of is shared among other CMS's like
Drupal. If I like say the Drupal site, but do not care to visit the WebWizard Of Oz's site - yet they have a forum that interests me,
- then despite I have to go there to participate. If the forums could be subscribed to by other Drupal installs - then I could read
and respond from my favorite site.
oh well...
just more thought on the subject.
Best and thanks for all you do..
RSS Feeds KINDA work like
RSS Feeds KIDA work like shared areas.. but not the same. We can read what happened with RSS but really can't participate in
the discussion from our drupal instal. We'd have to visit the feeds root site to do that.
lol..
still lost in thought here.

RSS feeds are a helper to drive traffice to a site, you are correct. Though isn't that the idea of the internet ? to drive traffic to your own site ?

I guess if your in it for
I guess if your in it for the ego, numbers and commercial aspects vs the social experience of meeting diverse peoples of the world you are correct.
Despite, that is what the internet has become, it wasn't always that way. In the 80's when message based it was more
community oriented than individual/commercial and I built tossers in C then C++ that exchanged messages between the
then message based internet & the "other" nets like Fido & GT (openSrc) My first OOPs complier was added via Borland and while
some enjoyed the programing environments - I enjoyed the command line compiles.. so maybe I'm just old fashion.
BTW it doesn't mean you'd loose traffic, rather, much like the major marketing groups and elite schools of our nation teach, it would
foster "brand" loyalty ( website loyalty ) and a reason to keep people coming back to your site. In the end isn't that what matters
- not the who's been there done that - but the who's been there and keeps returning to do that?

Do these not contradict themselves ?

while I got your ear.. any
while I got your ear.. any other reports ( I searched - didn't see ) of FCKEditor conflicting with "slideshow"?
On one drupal install we have, once FCKEd is installed the slide show ceases to function.
no need to answer as this is off topic here.
Thanks for your volunteer work.'

I'd check the issue query for both modules to see if there are existing issues that have been reported. I don't use a text editor at this time to have noticed any conflict.

RSS is a remote way to read. You can then choose to visit and participate. That's how I use them.
