It would be nice if an admin can set what types nodes can be imported, and thus choose what shows up in the "type" list.

5.x-1.x is no longer supported.

As for 6.x-1.x : Node import currently allows import of any type the user can create. This is by design.

However, a feature request could be that Node import has permissions like "import any content" (would be the current behaviour), "import story content" (the user needs both "create story content" and "import story content" to actually be able to the story import content), ... so administrators can assign more limiting permissions if they choose so.
