When using the file share module, it seems as if there is no other way to hide the "edit" link from users you don't want to edit the file share, but still be able to view/upload/download files, with out using taxonomy. When you use Taxonomy, you get the taxonomy list term that shows up on the page. I think that there should be an easier way to ensure that a generic user doesn't have "edit" access to the fileshare.
