Hey there,

I recently launched http://www.happyfolding.com - it's nothing fancy, but it'd be great to hear some feedback from you. I seem to be making more and more Drupal sites... I think I'm hooked! Just for your info, it's running on Drupal 5.2 (although I'm curious about Drupal 6).

The theme is a slightly modified Minelli (the fixed with version of Garland), nothing that will knock your socks off.
As to modules - this is my first shot at using views and the embedded media player. The gallery is set up using CCK, imagefield, imagecache, and views as described on http://drupal.org/node/144725. I've also used categories quite extensively to allow filtering.

As to content - you'll see fast enough yourself that it only contains photos, and videos that were posted on youtube or metacafe. You might say that using drupal for this is a slight overkill, but I find Drupal is simply fantastic, and makes life so much easier.

Your site is very nice work and simple to follow for other people.
I ahve seen many discussion on the default template to be a dificult to handle for newbeis but your work is an inspiration for those who like to maintain site with little knowledge and simple work.

I don't know about your expertise may be , may be you are expert in programing and all that but when it comes to straight forward site i think your's is good example.

If you can tell more about your work, it will benefit others. Like tell me how you put the Title image?

Your gallery page is working nice, that liquid layout is very well working it perfectly shows ajax pics. How you did it?

The page : http://www.happyfolding.com/techniques is not showing video thumbs and not even playing but may be it is 'cuase of firewall blocking the video site.

BTW you have covered a nice topic my son will like it very much.

I actually have done a bit of webdesign myself, so I guess I do have the "expertise" that many others don't. For example, www.conquer-space.net has a drupal design I did from scratch.

The title image are actually three images:

1. The logo (the butterfly on the left).
Just replace logo.png in the theme directory.
2. The top bit of the "Happy Folding - enjoy origami online" text image with butterflies.
I created a header.png image, which I specified as a background image in style.css (#wrapper #container #header)
3. The bottom bit of the "Happy Folding - enjoy origami online" text image with butterflies.
Just replace bg-content-right.png.

As mentioned in my first post, the gallery was done as described at http://drupal.org/node/144725 - that gives you the ajax slideshow for free.

Hope this helps,

Great site. I'm sure I'll visit it a lot.

I don't think Drupal is overkill for a project like this. If anything, it allows you to expand the site to do more in the future. But that certainly doesn't mean that it doesn't do simple content display and organization well.

nice gentle color and well organized! i am going to love linking this little gem of a site in the arts and crafts section of my community web site.

Thanks for this. I'm glad to hear that you think it is well organised - that's very important to me. Then, of course, it also has to look good.

But this is it: there are a lot of popular sites out there that are well organised, and successful, but not necessarily the "most beautiful" pages out there with respect to aesthetics. I have not, however, seen a successful site that is totally disorganised. Unfortunately, I feel many do not realise this when they set up their pages.
Thankfully, Drupal makes it quite easy to organise your site well.

What's the link to your community site, by the way?

Great site, looks clean and it's easy to navigate on the site.
Hmm.. you could put up some ads to get a little cash, it would help you run the site.

Sara Adams’s picture

I won't add any adds. Firstly, because I really think it would destroy the feel of the site, and secondly, because I am quite sure it would not give me even remotely enough to "help me run the site".

But thanks for the suggestion. It might have been worth doing if I got thousands of hits every day - but I don't. :)

Even without unique drupal theme (as I see, it's a minnelli mod), your site is really nice.
