Something must have changed with the latest Drupal core update, because special_menu_items no longer works. I've tried 5 sites now and each has broken. The Drupal admin interface simply regurgitates the special tags to the admin user.

I figured out a way to fix this though: disable, uninstall, reinstall, then reenable the module. Very odd.

Did you update the module AND drupal or just Drupal?

Just Drupal, I was already using v2.0 of special menu items. I've updated over a dozen sites and only had this problem with the first 3, which all were built using a similar base platform. I'm not sure what the issue was but I haven't had it moving forward and would not waste resources trying to figure out what the issue was unless others report it.
