we can't find the way to use the header region, like you do in your demo,
with the links Home,About,Portfolio,Contact
We choose the region "header" in the block admin menu..but anything appears..

You want to assign menu items to your "primary links" section. The "primary links" admin section can be found at admin/build/menu
