Issue Summary
Hello
Menu Views, in my various instalations, gets always populated/expanded when the parent menu is visible (but not necessarily active).
This hinders many potencial uses.
Given that the menu system provides this option:
Show as expanded
If selected and this menu link has children, the menu will always appear expanded.
Can we get Menu Views to support it?
Intended behavior:
Show as expanded Off (DEFAULT)
- do ***not** output anything until menu is clicked/becomes active
Show as expanded On
- always output wether or not menu is active
Given that the module is ignoring the menu system options, i'm marking this as a bug.
My current setup:
Menu Block 7.x-2.3
Menu Views 7.x-1.4
Menu Trail By Path 7.x-2.0-rc2+2-dev
Views 7.x-3.5

I'm confused. You marked the issue version as 7.x-2.0-rc2, but in your message you say you're running Menu Views 7.x-1.4.
In either case, Menu Views has never handled the hierarchy of a menu; it has always only replaced menu items with views. Your issue might be caused by your theme or one of the other modules you listed. If you place the menu view item underneath a link, make sure that parent's "Show as expanded" option isn't checked, which is where the functionality actually should take place. The "Show as expanded" option for a Menu View item pertains to items underneath that menu item.
It could even be a core issue: #1710744: Custom menus never receive an active trail (but system menu does).

oops, selected the wrong version. it's 1.4.

I would also strongly recommend upgrading to the 7.x-2.x branch. There was a huge hook shift from 7.x-1.x to 7.x-2.x to properly support modules like Menu Block, Nice Menus and Superfish.

Solved with 2.0-rc2! Great improvements =)
I was able to add the view inside another menu, so it no longer shows expanded before time.

I really doubt this is the same issue see how the original author said it was "fixed" in the 2.x branch. Plus you really need to give more information to go off of than just "Same issue". Please open an a new issue with the exact problem you are having.
