I'm not sure if this module makes one of the features of WordPress I generally use.

Does "comment notify" send a mail to the node author when a comment is added to his posts?

Thanks!

no, comment_notify was made to get other people back to your site

I'm interested in this feature as well. It seems silly to not tell the person who posted originally that there has been a response to her/his post and to require them to check back. I also have the problem as site admin that I don't know when new cotnent is posted and new comments are added - so I can't approve them etc without checking the comments queue.

Am I missing something or is there not a way to set up automatic notifications when a node is commented in Drupal?

Cheers,

Tobias

wouldn't subscriptions do this for you?

Cool - I wasn't familiar with the subscriptions project.. thanks. However, according to the description:

The official release version is still subscriptions 5.x-1.9. However, it's known to be buggy and it's unmaintained. We are working hard on getting 2.0 out and you can help us by trying out the beta version and reporting bugs.

I'm a little anxious about offering too many ways to subscribe to things and the subscriptions module looks great but seems like it would add more bloat to my drupal site (besides still being buggy, apparently). We already have organic groups and now comment notify.. what I was hoping for was a means for the author of a post to select/deselect reply notificaitons for that particular post, as well as set a default preference in theur settings.

Tobias

+1 for this as well. For forums especially, this makes sense for comment_notify. Subscriptions is buggy buggy and almost too powerful; with this addition, comment_notify could do everything I need.

i agree, this one feature would make it into 'subscriptions-lite plus comment follow-up notifications' - would the module developer consider a reasonable sponsorship to do this kind of thing? perhaps we could organize a chip-in...although then people are going to want to be notified even if they are not author or commenter, so that goes back 'round to subscriptions...

I would still want the author to get the email as well, especially since I'm not the only author on my site. I'm willing to chip in and see this happen - I doubt it's too much work to do that.
So, 3-4 of us, could come up with some $60-$100 for this.
does that seem reasonable?

thanks for the module!

I might also chip in. I feel like I am losing alot of opportunities for interactions with people on the Kabissa blog because of this. I am writing to people separately to let them know that I have commented on their posts, which is pretty silly. We can't assume that everyone is coming to the site every day, but they do check their email every day.

This is partially handled by organic groups - the most essential conversations we are having are in organic groups and so people are being notified of new posts and new comments according to their notification settings. But it should be possible - and this module comes tantalizingly close - to enable anyone to subscribe to new comments to any post they are interested in.

Cheers,

Tobias

I would also really like this feature.

I desperately want/need this feature, and would be willing to chip in $$ as well. As others mentioned i feel like our writers miss out on interacting with visitors because they don't know someone posted a comment.

Hi,

I'm using Drigg, the super-great digg-like drupal module, and I would also like the node owner to be notified when somebody comment his News.

Right now I'm using:

Comment_subscribe to let people who send a comment get a notification for replies to their comment
and
Comment Mail for the admin (me) to be notified when somebody send a comment on the website

As this is working perfectly I don't want to change the whole thing, but I would like the node author / owner to be notified when somebody comment his news, so what would be the best option to add this function ?

Thanks a lot.

with notifications and messaging, the main part of this is resolved for me, as authors are automatically subscribed to notifications of updates/new comments on their own posts.

cheers,

tobias
