First of all: I really appreciate your work on this project!
I'm new to Drupal and giving it a try – in fact, Spark is the main reason that attracted me to Drupal.
But Drupal core is outdated in the 7.x Spark distribution. Will you update the package?
Or can you tell me, how to apply the core update by myself? Which files shouldn't I overwrite?
Which of the two ways is best practice if you're using a Distribution?
Or wouldn't you recommend using Spark at all for beginners (at this stage)?
Help appreciated

webchickAwesome! Glad you like it! :D
The Spark distro is still undergoing active development atm, and so it's not really recommended for non-developers at this stage. But of course, you're free to install it and provide feedback, which can be useful.
I can probably roll a new D7 version of Spark with a newer version of Drupal core, but for now our efforts are all on Drupal 8 core, so this will have to wait until after feature freeze (Dec. 1). I'll try and get to it then.

rl commentedI too am new to Spark and love the click to edit capability. I have been working with it and I think I did a bad thing. I did a drush pm-update and I no longer have inline editing with wysiwyg ability. Was I not supposed to do a pm-update with Spark?

webchickOk, new version of Drupal core without security holes in it is in the newest copy of the make file. Will try and roll a new alpha release sometime this week/next week.
The issue in #2 sounds unrelated, but pm-update should generally work fine, apart from the caveat of this being an incredibly fast moving target. :)
