This module needs a maintainer and has security patches to apply. Since this is used on a handful of projects of ours, I would like to get the module updated and patched, and the issues worked through.

sreyen, The project is assigned to Unsupported Projects so this step seems unnecessary.

Kevinquillen and I are going to collaborate on this module. Please let me know how I can move this forward.

That's true that it doesn't need contacting the owner. But now that I see it's was marked unsupported over a security issue, it does need a patch for the security issue approved by the security team before anyone can take it over, per http://drupal.org/node/251466 Next steps are actually described very specifically on the project page, so I'm not sure why this skipped straight to requesting ownership without getting the patch approved first. Please re-open this after the patch is approved.
