hi i was told by my webhost to disable the .htaccess file in the files subdirectory so i wouldnt encounter problems running drupal with them and i quote :

"I have removed your .htaccess file and now there are no problems. Please note that Drupal is generating this .htaccess but in the readme file, there is a option that not all hosts supports some of it features so they must be disabled."

ive had problems showing the image files r that under the files directory. i cant find this readme file he is talking about. how do i disable drupal from generating that file? hoping someone can figure this out.

thank you

Keep the .htaccess file but erase all data in the file and save it.
That works with the hosting company One.com for example.

Thank you so much for addressing this issue! I have been struggling with a Drupal website on XO Communications hosting because .htaccess causes no access to files. Have been trying to figure how to move to a different hosting server though I've spent the last 8 months developing this awesome site for my client on their hosting server.

The file upload process always recreates a .htaccess file on the server even though I keep deleting it.
The advise to delete all data from the .htaccess files solved all my file access problems!!@@!!!!! THank you thank you thank you!
