I ran across this thread - http://drupal.org/node/112530 - but haven't seen a module that converts Word documents to articles/book pages/etc. complete with formatting. Is anything in development or is there another solution I can implement for my users?

Why? Some people don't check every forum. I think the question is relevant to both.

common courtesy to avoid clutter is a good answer but I'll elaborate a little further:
most support people don't hop forum to forum, we support using the recent posts tracker. Thus we see your posts no matter where you put them. Lastly, keeping track of multiple forums posts that ask the exact same question becomes confusing for other users who actually search for information.

May be fruitful then to post in the thread you've linked to where the dicussion is taking place. or using the contact tab of the person/persons who've stated they are working on such a module.

Of course one could also hire someone to build the module for them using the paid services forum, or drawing up a proposal and submitting it to a consultant listed here: http://drupal.org/drupal-services

and last but not least, one could begin working on creating the module themselves.

The TinyMCE editor has a 'paste from Word' function that you could perhaps use...
