I have searched Google all day for an example to do the following type of rewrite using an .htaccess file, but I've come up with nothing. I've read through "writing" rewrite rules, but I'm not finding this an easy subject to tackle.
Anyway, how would I take the following URL:
whatever.com/any/number/or/level/of/directories
and rewrite to to this URL:
http://www.whatever.com/any/number/or/level/of/directories?
It seems that the whatever.com/any/number/or/level/of/directories is being forced to be handled by index.php. The redirection doesn't take place. See my .htaccess file below.
Thank you so very much in advance.

look in the provided
look in the provided .htaccess by drupal, it has some part that explains how to do domain.com to www.domain.com redirection, you just have to uncomment one line.
