I've tried hard to research the following question over weeks of internet searching, reading, thinking, but am having trouble so now I'm turning to you, the Drupal community. Please forgive the fact that it's a very open question:
My (potential) client has asked for the following as part of a new website:
Intranet
The online collaborative space or intranet is a significant part of the new website. This space should offer much of the functionality of readily available platforms (such as Google Drive / Google Docs, or MS SharePoint, or Basecamp, etc.) in that it should allow:
• Announcements
• File sharing
• E-mail notification to all members of any updates (announcements or files)
• Online editing and commenting of documents, i.e. word documents and spread-sheets
My question is - are there any Drupal solutions to this? Is it possible to have an intranet with the wiki feature that covers documents and spreadsheets.
I suggested Open Atrium (which I think looks great) but it doesn't offer a Wiki for spreadsheets, and I'm not so sure how good it is as an online filing system.
I could just suggest that they use Google Drive, but is there a way of integrating it with Open Atrium or Drupal to take advantage of the wiki and filing features?
I'll leave it there and am hopeful that someone out there has some experience in this area, or even some leads for me to follow.
Thanks to all,
A~

There is a module to integrate Alfresco with Drupal but I have not used it. Alfresco may have office integration : http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Microsoft_Office
I am not aware of any published code allowing this to do be done in Drupal directly, so you may have to provide your own code. There was a discussion about it here http://groups.drupal.org/node/58833
