With entity translation enabled and set up such that Language Neutral is the default language, we can create new beans and the field data saves and displays correctly. However, when editing the bean again, all fields are empty. Editing beans that have a specific language do not suffer from this problem.

This gets it working. I suspect there may be other places where similar changes are needed though.
