uh. I'd have your friends define what they mean by "outdated" and what they believe has replaced CMS's

I would agree with your friends if I was using Drupal 4.7...

Are your friends truly sincere, or do you need to find some who are more sincere? As an example, since I was recognized as a doctor of physics, it's fascinating to see how many so-called friends want to drag me down. With friends like that, who needs enemies. Shoot! There's enough rival scientists who qualify as enemies.

Even the old DOS with Blinker added would be considered obsolete, but in the end, for the programmer up to the challenge of writing a new OS, it's whatever they want to build it into.

Drupal away and decide for yourself.

As compared to Wordpress & Joomla 3.0, Drupal had far been lagging behind in the mobile world. As you see Joomla 3.0, you'll be fully impressed with its core responsive design on the mobile phone. Drupal is still half-baked in responsive design, the core output are not responsive in the backend, only the front-end. Indeed, I'd decided to move back to Joomla until Drupal 8 (fully responsive) to become mature in 2015.
