If users gain points for contributing content to a site, their motivation is to contribute, but some will try to contribute lower-quality content in order to gain more points. Although the points are equal, the quality of the contributions of different users will vary.
It seems to me that it would be great if users could be assigned something I would call a 'quality score' or 'multiplication factor'.
Example process:
1) User 1 posts excellent content and has 20 points in total. User 2 posts content that is acceptable for moderators, but not great. User 2 has 50 points in total.
2) Moderator assigns User 1 a Multiplication Factor of 3. User 1 keeps their default Multiplication Factor of 1.
3) User 2 is retroactively granted points, bringing their points up to 20*3=60. For all new points User 2 gains, they gain the default number of points multiplied by 3.
