Malformed URL on link to detail page from summary link in view that contains an argument

The view I'm using has an argument on a cck field, and for "default" I've selected "summary, unsorted."

The view appears beautifully in the node with the summary titles showing up perfectly...

but Ooops... the hyperlink to the detail page is malformed: it should be:

example.com/viewurl/argument

but instead it shows up as:

example.com/viewurl//argument

with an extra forward slash after the viewurl.

The view works as desired when accessed directly via its viewurl and not seen inside a node.

[As a related aside, the Insert View module has a related but different problem. There the url shows up as:

example.com/node/nodeID/agrument

For some reason the base viewurl gets stripped out and replaced by the node url.]
