With the popularity of entity references IMHO being able to "pre-populate" a reference during the node creation is becoming an essential component to enhancing the editorial workflow.

It would be very nice if the Maintainers from Entityreferences PrePopulate and PrePopulate could work together to conceptualize a great module that works out of the box for us site builders.

Probably it should be something like a plugable prepopulate framework.
